kz 400 starter on a kz 440? was created by Alibi
Hello all! I'm a newbie to this site as well as to bikes in general. After some solid advice, I bought an 82 KZ440 for a starter bike and have been slowly getting it in good running order. (I can post the link to my rebuild pics in another forum if that's kosher).
The last part I really need is a starter. I got one off ebay that turned out to be the wrong part so I'm looking again. I found a decent looking starter from a 75 kz400. The casings look identical and I was just curious if anyone knew if it would work on my 440?
I figured this would be the best place to ask

I cant tell you which one will work - hopefully someone else who can will be along soon - but perhaps I can tell you where to look.
Go to www.kawasaki.com
Select Motorcycle, owner info, parts diagrams etc. You should be able to drill down until you have a parts diagram for your bike and part numbers to go with it.
At that point somewhere on the page is a blue button which says "get parts list" ...or something similar. Click, enter the part number and you should get a list of bikes and models which use the same part number.
Good luck

I found another source that used the same starter for both kz400's and kz440's, so I'm assuming they will work now.

Hehe, yeah I keep seeing re-man'd starters for upwards of $150 when I can pickup one on Ebay thats been used for $30-ish.
Ahh.... the joys of Ebay. I'm *almost* done rebuilding my bike and so far everything I've used has come from Ebay. About the only things that wont are going to be Seafoam, oil, fork oil, and brake fluid. And maybe tires...
Got a kz400 starter on my way
