I have a 1977 KZ 1000 and need advice on the speedometer gear located on the front wheel. Some joker who did not know what he was doing at the time ( me )flatened the little inside connection and now my speedo doesn't go. The guage is fine. Aside from paying Kaw big bucks anyone got any ideas?

The speedometer drive consists of a set of bevel gears and the circular drive plate with the teeth that engage the wheel. I assume you flattened the drive piece. Suggest you look for a new one on eBay... they won't cost much and many models will work I suspect. Go to buykawasaki.com under owner info -> parts diagrams and look up the part number for the bit you messed up. You can then plug the part number into the part number entry block and see what models it fits... I susct many will turn up.
