Did you check for proper clearance between the new bearings and the cam journals?

You never mentioned if this bike was air shifted, if it has a slick or bar, what RPM your leaving at - These all make a difference at the finish line. As far as the original question I believe most guys are running a 15/36 combo (that's how mine is geared)
Also it sounds like your not hitting it hard enough off the line.

If you are hitting the traps @ 97mp, but the bike is still pulling then something is missing. Air box or pods ?... main jet size ?... petcock delivery ?... rider in excess of 300 lb's -(just kidding). Good Luck to you.....

Yes air shift, slick and bar. Im still learning to launch the bike i am not leave hard at all, which im sure are all factors. Now the engine is back out i believe my biggest problem right now is missing horsepower, gotta get that corrected first.

If you have a slick and bar setup there should be no issue launching at 6K or above, with a small motor you want to keep the RPMs up there.
You said it was a purpose built bike but no mention of a lockup clutch?

No lock up clutch. Sent the head to FBG for valve job. #3 cylinder was down to 90 psi. Found my horsepower loss. Hopefully back to the track by mid October.

Well the cam bearings. Seems i have two different manufacturers of the bearing mixed together. There is a definite difference in the quality of the bearings. As i recall i had to buy from two different places to get a full set of bearing. Knowing what i know now i would have left the originals in the engine, guess its all part of the learning experience. Best you can do is learn from your mistakes and move forward, I am definitely going to check the clearances when the head gets back from FBG.

Well,
Got her back to the track last weekend. Did not change the gearing at all. But did put in cam bearings and had a valve job done. First pass i finally broke a 100 mph barely but i broke it. Still not very smooth of a run, so i decided it was time to turn on the autoshift and see if its me or the bike. Well its me. Autoshift made a world of difference, made a few more passes to get the autoshift dialed in last pass of the day i hit 103.44mph. With that straightened out i was able to start paying attention to what the bike is really doing. Found it not shifting into 5th until nearly the finish line so gear change is definitley in order for next year. Gonna be a long winter. Thanks for all the help and words of encouragment!!
