how did you make it? What components did you use? it's such a simple device it seems like a great thing to make yourself.

Not homemade, but I've had success using a friend's ultrasonic cleaner. Cleaned my petcock right up, along with a few other small things. You couldn't use it for anything big, but a used one isn't hard to find. The one I'm using is a spare, and he uses them to clean medical grade stuff. Cleans tons of stuff really well. No solvents required, but you can use them.

a hose run from a fish tank pump run to the bottem of a plastic tub like that helps keep things stirred up,cleans better B)

Before i bought my parts washer I used a 5 gallon bucket with a coupla tins of mineral spirits in it.

A 55 or 30 gallon drum, depending on size/ space, cut in half length wise. With a smooth straight cut, you can add some angle Iron for a good fitting lid area, and strength. Hinge the back so you have your lid, put it on a stand, preferably metal, add a pump if you want, also the small bung down for draining later. And I still use a mix of Diesel and gas, 7:1 seems like a good ratio, so ventilation is a must.

You could probably buy one as cheap as you could build one. I think mine was under 50 bucks.

For large parts, steel or cast iron only! Use a 55 gal. steel drum cut off. Raise drum up with a couple cinder blocks. Add a heat source underneath ( preferrably outside) add water and a can of crystal drain cleaner. Let parts sit and agitate every so often. Takes off grease , paint and any other stickey residue. Just don't stick your arm in there.

and whats that solvent called... you know the stuff that was standard in autoshops for years. I wanna say "stoddard solvent" does that sound right? where do I get it?
