I'm starting another relove of a 1978kz1000a.I for the 1st time installed the engine on its side. I have read many times this being done. It's worked out great doing it myself.

We have done at least 6 or 7 bikes installing the frame over the engine. It works really well if there's a center stand already on the frame.

Why the center stand?

Why the center stand?
Once the frame is on the motor we can pick it up and put it on the lift table with a jackstand in the front. Then it's ready to start installing parts.

I know it’s a radically different engines and weights, but went over the same thing with my brother and his YZ250.
He was trying to figure out some Rube Goldberg contraption to balance the bike and slide the engine in.
I was like, “Do you have a spare piece of cardboard or rug to prevent the engine cases from getting scratched up?”
I think the engine weighed around 30# and the frame maybe 7#?
Much easier to maneuver the light frame around the heavy engine than the other way around.

Brilliant. This is what I am planning on doing with my Kz1000LTD.
One question comes to mind: Apart from the center stand (which is a fantastic idea), are there any other parts that are worth your while installing BEFORE getting the engine in?
I´m thinking about battery box, wiring loom, etc.
