XR100 ring gap was created by mark1122
Hi Guys. I am rebuilding a 1994 XR100 Honda trail bike. the manual says the ring end gap should be .020".
in the car world and Larger bikes i have done, the standard for setting end gap is .0035" per inch of bore. the piston in this bike is only 2 ". so it would be normal to set the gap at .007" for this . can anyone explain why honda would use such a large gap?
Thanks

.020" sounds like a "service limit".  Do you have the real Honda manual, or a Clymers (or similar)?

As a datapoint, the Suzuki GS250 twin, 125cc/cylinder, lists the spec as .004-.012" for "new" rings, and .028" as the service limit.

You R way Tooo SMART.  And sooo right. I just rechecked the Honda manual. It is indeed the service limit. It makes sence now.
Thanks
