Ok been reading a lot about the transmission today and found a driven cam damper attached to the gearbox is this to smooth out the shaft drive??
Sorry this on a Z1300 engine

My suspicions where correct the Z1300 has a damper on the end of the driven shaft and in the gearbox to smooth out gear changes and shaft drive, so if the drive shaft train is removed there will be no need for this part as well making it a whole lot easier for my conversion.

Yes, they are to dampen vibration and harshness, which is why chain drive bikes have a damper in the rear wheel.
