I have several restored bikes along with a 2006 Goldwing with a sidecar. My wife has a 2019 Suzuki DR 650 for on and off road.

Normally no. You will need to remove your drive chain case, and likely your left foot peg and shift lever.

Excellent point! I was thinking that the cover is fastened with M6 bolts, but some may use M6 screws. You will need to buy a proper screwdriver called JIS standard. Otherwise you can easily strip the screws with a Phillips screwdriver. Vessel makes really nice impact JIS screwdrivers. An impact driver helps remove the engine cover screws

I love my JIS screwdrivers. They are a must for sure. That said, for engine cover bolts, a standard #3 phillips head bit, as supplied in most common Impact Driver kits, work just fine for the engine cover screws. Don't try #2, that's too small.
