Replacing valve seal without removing head

I recently replaced the head gasket on my 81 kz305 to fix a head gasket oil leak. The good news is leak fixed. The bad news is now the bike smokes like hell from the left muffler. The wife is also complaining I smell of exhaust after riding the bike.
I replaced valve seals while the head was off, and rember one valve seal did not go on easy and I buggered it up a bit forcing it into place. I'm guessing this is the problem. So, I'm going to try replacing the seal without removing the head again. I'll fill the cylinder with nylon rope and compressing it aganst the valves. Does anyone have a good procedure to compress and remove the valve springs?

I'll get an inexpensive spring compresser from ebay and give it a try. I don't rember which valve has the damaged seal.
Would a bad seal on an exhust valve cause smoke the same as on an intake valve?

The spark plug surface will tell you the oil fouled cylinder. A bad seal on an exhust or intake valve can cause smoke.
An oil or carbon fouled valve stem or valve plate will tell you the bad valve stem seal.

Yes; a bad seal on either one can allow oil to reach the combustion chamber, where it burns and creates smoke.

EDIT: I now see that Scirocco already answered the question. I was distracted by the excellent pictures.
