undefined I have been reading threads on 530 chain conversions.  I haven't found any threads that apply directly to my bike.  Anybody out there have this mod on their later KZ1000 mine is an LTD.  Also interested to hear what sprockets have worked best for people and the best place to get them - Z1?  I also have an issue where my trans jumps out of second gear?  I was going to try to inspect the gears and possibly install an overshift bushing along with adjusting the clutch.  If this doesn't work, I have a second motor and was going to possibly have my trans gear sent out to be undercut.  Best place to do this?  Any input would be great.   Thank you all, I am new to this and have been researching a lot on this forum- I can't wait to get my KZ straightened out - I am hoping that I don't have to split cases - we'll see.

Stock
Front sprocket - 15T
Rear sprocket - 39T
Reduction ratio = 39/15 = 2.6
Chain - 630 x 96.  96 links x .75" per link = 72" chain

530 chain
Front sprocket - 15T + 3 = 18T
Rear sprocket = 18 x 2.6 = 46.8T. use 47T
72" chain / (5/8" per link for 530) = 115.2.  Use 116 links for 530 chain

I´m ready to bite the bullet on this one. My 630 transmission is completely shot in my ´82 KZ1000LTD. Ready to order to Z1.

Just 2 questions:

1.- Chain links number: 115.2 -- Shouldn´t the rounding be done to 115 rather than 116?
2.- More acceleration: If I reduce the front sprocket to 17 (just 1 tooth); I´ll get faster acceleration but... will I get any other ill effects rather than a lower top speed?

Cheers! (and happy X´mas!)

Chain length is always in even numbers of links.

You don't want to go down on the front sprocket size, because that shrinks the sprocket size.  Move up on the rear size instead.  Just be careful of not going too big, or you may need a longer chain.  Find a sprocket calculator, just to be safe.  You may need, 118 link chain.  It's easy to shorten, but not lengthen.

Thank you Ed. I´ll go with the original figures. Probably not worth the change.

Thanks again!

Wow! I just checked, and I already have a 50 chain with a rear 45 sprocket.
have not been able to take off the cover to the front sprocket yet; but I am assuming it’s a 18 one

I´m a bit lost here.

I just counted the link number in my current chain, and I have 114 links. As I said before, it´s a 50 chain
Front: 17t
Rear: 45t

Maybe it was converted previously.

If its a 50 chain its not a motorcycle chain and is not suited for high speed use.

That is a machine chain used on conveyors and industrial machinery (Tsubaki)
A friend of mine used one once on his KZ900 and it lasted one short ride, when he yanked on the throttle it broke.

Save your own life by purchasing a 530 motorcycle chain.
