So todays question is what to do with a OEM Z1r exhaust that i just got delivered, got it for smallish money and the plan was to try and make it work. The can is in real good shape, only 2 wee scuffs on the rear but other than that ill get a nice shine out of it with Moms, it comes with all the mounting hardware and clamp, as bellow.

The outside headers are in near perfect , the 2 centre ones are junk, they got crushed in storage, the mid box was cut maybe to accommodate, a few repairs that can ne sorted and a wee hole that i can fix.... a fair bit of work here, either find the middle tubes or have 4 new ones made from stainless and sell on the outer ones for someone who needs them. 2 outer flanges will need to be welded to the box.

Finally... its going to go and a "pieced together bike" that i started with only a frame and the engine is about 2000 out from the frame, so this will never be a stock build, the running gear is off a zephyr 550/1100 and the exhaust will just bout fit. So the big question, cash out sell what i got to pick up an after market exhaust of keep the OEM look and try and restore what i got?

the mid box was cut...

That collector box is supposed to be symmetrical on the left and right.  A large portion of the left side was cut off.  Why would someone do that?  Maybe it started out as an 1980 collector, with two outlets, and the easiest way to convert it to right-only was to do that diagonal chop?

The messed up collector box is mostly hidden under the bike, so if you did the work to fabricate new header tubes the overall system would look pretty convincing on the bike.  But is it worth the effort?  It seems like it makes a difference to someone who's looking for a perfectly complete and original bike, but it sounds like that's not going to happen for this one.

I'm interested in the muffler if you choose to sell it.  :)

Yea im doing my math and i could have it looking good, working well, 4 fabricated stainless headers, 2 flanges ( welded on ) with the exhaust shield reinstalled on one side..350 euro all in. that would put me in over 750 euro when a delkevic black ceramic exhaust will cost me the same. The bike wil never be stock but the stock exhaust will make it look more than it does.... So would you put a price on the can so DOHC? or am i asking a horse trader to put a value on my horse. they literally do not exist on the Internet right now.

I figured it was either crushed or to fit a different center stand?

You're half right.  The header and collector assembly do not exist.  They are super rare.  But for the muffler, the reproductions are easy to find.  Not cheap, but easy.  I'm guessing they are all made by the same source.  Maybe Doremi?  PMC?

Anyway, Sudco lists them for $375 but I've never seen them posted for that.   www.sudco.com/kawasaki_z1r_replacement_muffler.html
I've been meaning to call Sudco and see if that price is correct.

Z1Parts.net has them for $520, but also has them listed on ebay for $572
      z1parts.net/z1r-d3-muffler-l-h-18002-1044/
      ebay.com/itm/164184460979
Diablo Cycles for $550.   www.diablocycle.com/Kawasaki-KZ10000-D1-...fler-Right-Side.html

But what is a yours worth?  I don't know.  This 1980 left side sold for $175 it looks like?  The left is way more rare than the right, but also maybe less valuable (fewer 1980 bikes means less demand)?  ebay.com/itm/324736139503

I'd say $250 would be a good guess for a low end?  Or at least, that's what I would probably get if I listed it myself.  I don't ever hit the jackpot with Ebay like some folks manage to do.  Maybe I'm doing it wrong.  :)

The high end is probably $500 or more if two folks both decide they really need it on the same day.

I have a full Z1R exhaust with a 1/2" rust hole in the muffler right near where it joins to the collector.  All of these Kz exhausts seem to be pretty rust prone.  It's hard to know how much life is left.

Yea im the same, never had much of that so called good luck thing, lots of the other luck though, the kind that breaks you new iphone screen 2 weeks before you are about to sell it on. I think before i do anything ill see if i can have the headers made, if i cant then it will be plan B....or C
