I'm trying to install the stock exhaust system on my 750....obviously something is not right with the parts i have on hand. Either the holders or the split keepers are wrong or shorter studs were installed in the head to fit the 4-1 header I removed. Can anyone identify the problem?
The first picture is the holder slid all the way on without the split keepers

What's the flange position with the split collars in place? Are there any old crush washers embedded into the head port?

Seems like your keepers are the shorter type for some stock exhausts, and maybe your 4-1 needs the longer type - I had a similar issue when I installed my 4-1. Part number 92027-264, I believe; may have luck searching "KZ650 exhaust collars" etc

Just got in from the garage.....got it figured out. The studs were installed in the head with the short portion of the threads exposed and the long portion screwed into the head. I turned them around and everything went together. I should compile a list of all the fails by the previous owner (s)' Weather is good enough for a test ride
