Cam chain adjustment was created by BobZ
82 KZ750.  I have the manual downloaded but the adjustment procedure shows a different adjuster than the one on my bike.  The appendix shows the later model adjuster like mine but doesn't really explain if the adjustment procedure is different.  What do I need to do to adjust the chain tension?

Had I known I'd live this long I'd have taken better care of my Led Zeppelin albums

Just some pics of your cam chain adjuster would help to solve your problem!

Assuming you have a stock tensioner there is NO adjustment procedure.  The tensioner adjusts automatically and shouldn't need to be touched unless it binds up for some reason.

One of the critical aspects of the tensioner is to be aware that any time the valve cover is removed you also need to remove the tensioner spring cap and to pull back the wedge.  Don't turn the engine over this way or the timing chain may skip.  After you are ready to button up the engine, install the valve cover, and when done then install the spring and wedge cap then.  This is necessary because the valve cover has a rub block which depresses the chain.  Failing to do this results in the chain being overly tightened by the auto tensioner.

When I pulled the valve cover I inserted a longer bolt to lock the tensioner as per the manual.  I rolled the intake cam forward and replaced a shim, leaving the chain locked to the sprocket with zip ties....put it back together and replaced the original bolt in the tensioner.
