Motor Oil Help - POWER1 ok? was created by Bummer1
Thanks to the community for helping me get a 1981 kz440 Ltd I recently bought in shape. Unfortunately I failed to do my research on here when it came to the oil change before the first start up after many years of sitting. I used Castrol POWER1 10w40 motorcycle oil. Bike started up fine and I ran it briefly but still have some work to do before it is ready for a ride. Now that I have read a bit here, I am having trouble identifying if the POWER1 has “friction modifiers” or if it will be ok to use. If it is the wrong oil, any advice on changing/flushing it out? Here is a link to the oil used:

thank you in advance for any advice.

Your good. The spec sheet says it JASO rated. It also mentions it’s good for wet clutch.

Nothing wrong w the Castrol Pwr1, it's a motorcycle oil & says it's good for a wet clutch.
A good alternative is Shell Rotella 15W-40 regular in the white bottle. It has the JASO MA rating and is usually cheaper than other oils & often times goes on sale at various stores. Chevron Delo & Valvoline Premium Blue are a couple of other heavy duty engine oils marketed for diesel engine use & having the same sort of anti-wear additives as motorcycle oils. Delo goes on sale sometimes.
One caveat is that the 15W may not be great during cold weather or in northern climes.
ps: for any engine oil check the msds to see if it has ZDDP or ZDP. ie, zinc-phosphate compounds. usually expressed as a percent.
