Performance coatings, who knows what? was created by Shankkole
Hello all
While reading up for some projects, I came across some different coatings for exhaust(Jet Hot) etc.
In the firearms industry they have played with boron coatings and many others. Some get very hard and heat dispersing or heat holding.
Is there anyone out there in with any trial (fails or gains), with some of the newer coatings for engine/exhaust parts?
PS..... Im throwing down the cheese to go full turbo on me trike.
Im looking for a "cooling" coating for the intake, plenum etc.
also a pic, cause my words always look ugly(hahahah).

Snakeoil.
I had my exhaust system "ceramic" coated and it's fragile and chips easily.
Cerakote and Gunkote and nice, but only from the standpoint of being chemical resistant. They don't reduce heat or anything like that

Hmmm. I had my headers on my Mustang ceramic coated over ten years and 100,000 miles ago and they still look as fresh as the day they came back. Granted they have not been taken on and off all that much.

I'll have to disagree with Ed here Ceramics are well known heat for their insulation properties, countless studies have been done on its thermal efficiency on exhaust and engine parts, It helps keep more heat inside the exhaust allowing for more efficient burning of pollutants and aids in getting heat out of, and away from the head, hotter exhaust gasses inside the pipe are dispersed faster from the pipe than without treatment. Helping heat disperse more efficiently from the combustion process helps stop detonation caused buy heat...

I believe there are far superior products out there, compared to what is marketed.
Im talking "spray can" paint vs the shit NASA paints the shuttles with.
there is "ceramic" and then there is High heat ceramic porcelain but there is only a couple ovens in the USA that do Porcelain.
I have used cerakote with good results but there is wear.
In my senior year they marketed cerakote, to use for frame restoration, 4 years later it was in shotgun news for firearms coatings. I have used it on oven parts (I have 1952 TAPPAN stove).Great heat resilience and easy to touchup with airbrush.
I was thinking of a "hot dip" chrome type coating that can smooth the inside of parts.
After reading up more I now see ceramic as sealing the hot in(the pipe) and it forces the pressure out the back.
Thanks for the input folks. Be Well

I have used these guys many times and can vouch for the quality and durability of their work.
Probably not much use to those in the USA or Europe unless you have deep pockets!

GunKote used on wheels and brake calipers. "Ceramic" (powder) coating on exhaust. Not shown in the spot on the #4 header where the paint peeled off. It's not huge, but hugely annoying.
