Gahhhhhh%$#@, I still have the slow starter problem. I have a new battery. The starter was serviced and new brushes installed. I cleaned all grounds. I cleaned the solenoid terminals and checked the starter switch terminals. I bypassed the solenoid. I tried a jumpstarter. I've checked all wiring connections that are easy to find, short of pulling the headlight. Same old thing. It cranks very slowly and unevenly.

Wish I had a kick start backup because my knee is mucked up so I won't be pushing it up the hill in my driveway in order to roll back down and clutch start it.

Well it doesn't really matter where the resistance lies if I can't get it started so I'm not going to worry about it for now. I was getting very poor spark anyway even with the car battery hooked up and strong cranking, so I decided to order new Honda CB350 points that someone else used successfully. They should arrive today or tomorrow. I pulled my old points off just now and they are deeply pitted and badly beat up under the microscope. Couldn't see any of that with the old and naked eye. So there's still a last gasp chance to get this running before the riding season is over, as long as no new problems crop up.

BOOM!  I had it running smooth for 5 minutes today. It will probably be a few days before a road test but I'm going to call this rebuild a success, no matter what happens from here on.  Many thanks to EVERYONE who helped make this 14 page 5 month marathon a success, because I sure as hell couldn't have done it without the help.

Potential bump in the road. I can't find my timing light so I decided to see what happened if I took it for a short ride as is. I discovered that although it starts up and idles fine as can be, it bogs quickly and wants to die when I give it gas. So I did not/could not ride it.

More ominous though, is that after it runs a few minutes the right side smokes. This is the side with the scored cylinder. I haven't checked the float levels again yet so I will do that, and I will get it timed. But I'm prepared for possible bad news ahead and if it happens it happens. Its been a good experience and I'm confident I could do another rebuild in a tiny fraction of the time it took to do this one.

Whadya think...worth a hundred bucks? bear in mind I can't find 2 reasonably priced oversized pistons, or reasonably priced oversized rings, so if this can't be serviceable with just a hone then its not worth it. I already have one leaky bore, I don't need another.

Hmmm. Doesn't look great to me, but I'm no expert. It has almost 20,000 miles on the head so I'm thinking I should pass on it. Sigh.

I found an engine but cold compression is 110/130

110 is the low end of usable according to www.zedder.com/Info/82%20KZ305-B1%20CSR.htm

I haven't tested mine since the rebuild (or if I did I don't remember)  so maybe I should do that. Unfortunately that 110 is the right, and that's the one currently blowing oil

ah, stupid me. I was thinking that they could maybe be split like the bottom end but I guess not. Getting desperate here...
