Oil coming from the points cover

On my 750 twin, I never had a leak on the points cover until I had to replace my clutch. I did not put in a new seal on it when I put it back together because it looked fine and it had never leaked....wrenchmonkey wrote: A picture is worth a thousand words....
If it's coming from your ignition cover, there is two possible sources for oil:
1) The oil pressure sender is possibly loose from the case (bottom of the space, just behind the ignition plate
2) The engine seal behind the timing advance plate is leaking.
then I had a leak out the points cover coming past the seal.

The outer 28 mm diameter lip is a part of the seal that contains a metal spring that give and support the 25 mm diameter sealing lip some more pre tention to the crankshaft shaft.

I have the new seal ordered. The previous seal I aquired was not OEM, maybe built a little different. But I could not get the seal over the 28mm lip. This is directly behind the timing plate. The problem is trying not to tear the seal while installing it. Any tips on getting the seal over the lip? In this pic, the left arrow is the 28mm lip and the right arrow is the 25mm shaft.

Could it be part of the advance mechanism that became seized on the shaft, and needs to be removed?

I would also carefully inspect the inside of the collar for corresponding damage and clean up as needed.
