Went down yesterday was created by KZJOE900
Everything was going well util one of the riders behind me rear ended the rider to my right and then turn his front tire into my path and we both went down. I basically coasted on top of the left side of my bike (which was coasting on top of the left side of his bike) until it skidded to a stop. The guy he hit had braked hard since the group in front did so in order to stop at one of the destinations. Really, he had plenty more distance from the group ahead, but he braked hard early. Split second later he got hit and then I was sideswiped my the same person that hit him. My bike is not too bad. Damage is on the right side. Bent handle bars, bend front turn signal and headlight stay, broken off rear turn signal, seat cover singed by his exhaust and the bottom of the Kerker a couple of slight scrapes. Everything else looks good. No body work damaged. For myself, minor scrapes on right hand knuckle , minor burn from his or my pipe, and very small scrape on my right knee. All in all, very lucky. The guy that got hit first (square on the rear fender / tire) managed to set her down easy. No injuries whatsoever. Unfortunately, the guy that hit us had a broken collar bone, 3 broken ribs and a nasty cut on the bridge of his nose. Wishing him a complete and quick recovery. I had just had lunch with these two gentleman for about an hour on the prior stop. The guy that was hit first was about 5 years older than me and the guy that hit us was in his mid to late 20's. He did seem a bit green to anything. But a nice kid. Ironically we had been discussing mishaps during lunch. The ride was a bit faster than I like. I had complained to someone at the prior stop that I was worried about any inexperienced riders on the curves. That they may become target fixated. Never expect this to happen however.

Glad to hear you are relatively unscathed. I am a big believer in following distance. I get nervous when everyone is bunched up.

Ouch!
Sorry to hear that news but glad that damage to both bike and body was relatively minor .
One of the hazards of group rides I guess

This is after he bounced off the guy on the right (guy with the BMW that has the VW Micro Bus engine) and turned into me.

Glad to hear you're OK. That's why I stay to myself. When Bossie was two months old I was crowded off the road by a friend. Never let that happen again.

Good that you're OK. Sounds like everyone else basically walked away. Best outcome, considering.
We don't do group rides much. Five or six other Riders we know well, that's about it. If it looks like there are squids or "bikers" we usually pass. Squids aren't wortythe risk, bikers usually ride obnoxiously loud, cornering-clearance-challenged bikes that just hold us back if they insist on "leading".

Glad everybody was able to walk away alive and that to irreparable damage was done.
Having both a KZ and a Harley, I did a few trips myself where we were a dozen bikes and what I was able to understand from them is that the more bikes / riders are involved, the higher the danger of having situations like that happen.
The leading bike must me an experienced rider that will maintain speed fluctuations at a minimum. Inexperienced riders should be paired between experienced riders and a good tail bike with an experience rider is also a good idea.
A lot of times the column gets slow down by a cager and this can create an accordion effect and if only one rider is not vigilant, it can have disastrous effects.
I prefer 5-6 bikes myself, with riders I know. No phones, bluetooth or other distractions and a good lead bike that will maintain a steady speed when we do long distances.
