Even Harley (want to be) riders are posers

I live near Portland, Oregon and my rider is a '76 KZ900 I bought new. I'm also in the process of restoring another one and a '73 Z1.

Sad truth, most of them are. There's one out here that sits in Gary's garage and hasn't been ridden in 5 years. It looks so lonely covered in dust, surrounded by boxes and SHT. I stopped counting how many Hogs just sit out here. If I owned them and they broke down all the time, I'd sell them and buy a few KZ's. :woohoo:

This is true, but I know of two that definitely get ridden. :)

An old friend traded in his HD last year for a new one: the trade-in had about 80,000 miles on it.

My brother's late 80s model just got a full engine rebuild (and build up) at about 90,000 miles.

Motorcyclists, not bikers.

I shouldn't have said "most". It should have been a lot. I've known guys that would wrench all night just to rid the next day.
I like the old Pan's. If I were to have a HD, it would be one of them. Dirty Dan had a pan, shovel, a knuckle and a few clones. He rode his BMW 900R most of the time. The last time I visited him before he died, he was talking about it. He had a Yamaha Road Star in his shop he couldn't ride. I still believe if he had ridden it down here each spring, he'd still be with us. He just gave up. :(

No worries, I think you were right the first time. Unfortunately there aren't a lot of the wrench-and-ride types.

I've ridden a few HDs, They're not my thing but I appreciate them as motorcycles.

It's sad to see when folks give up like that. However, I can't judge: there's no way to know what my situation will be when I get old. Older, I mean.
