What exactly are you bearing your head against the wall on?

Are you sure that is not the engine number? The vin, or frame number, is on the steering head, there should be a white sticker with the number and date of manufacture on it, and the number should also be stamped into the metal. Be aware that the year of manufacture is not necessarily the model year. New model production usually began in July or August. If you look at the back cover of the factory service manual, you can figure out what model year the frame is. The link below is to a downloadable manual.

Is that your photo? It looks like an incomplete vin. There probably should be a J at the beginning & assuming it should be a 17-digit vin, then it's missing the last 3 digits, so it would be JKAKZDM12CA005xyz. xyz = 3 numbers. In the pic it looks like the J might be there & the pic is cropped after the 5. From cyclechaos.com it could be an 82 KZ750-M1 CSR Twin. cyclechaos may have left out a digit where your vin has a 2 >> there's a space where a digit probably should be >> on the later 750-Twins cyclechaos has () in that spot, which probably indicates a digit that changes???

The KAKZDM12CA005 VIN is not that of a 1975 KZ750 twin. It is the VIN of a bike built in 1981 or later. See link below. Ed

Does it look like this? I have an 82 KZ750 M1 and the VIN also starts with JKAKZDM. According to Ed's link it should be that model.
