Hello and welcome to the KZR forum

A nice KZ750 Twin you have.

Have you checked the valve clearance are in spec?
Could be a bad pointer or a leaking intake boot.
Battery full charged and checked the acid level, refilled with distilled water?
Have you a service manual?

Thanks for the reply . No I haven't got that far yet .. if the valve clearances were out wouldn't it be throughout rev range ? Jon

The valve clearance is very important on those bikes.
A tide valve can be the source of a lot of problems, like backfire, bad idle, bad performance and so on

Welcome Joniplayer1.
Yes.
Both plugs fire at the same time (lost spark system). If your mis-fire is only in the left side it is cylinder related (coil wire, cap, plug, carb, valves, or compression).
Start with the easy checks.
If you change leads and the problem moves, check for cracks in the plug wire and the connection between wire and cap.
Do the following one at a time (to find the problem area).
Check your plug, New plugs have been known to be bad out of the box. Rare occurrence, but possible.
Double check the main jet in the left float bowl
Check/clean left carb internal passages (again).
Check compression on left cylinder.
Check valve clearances.

Good luck,
Jim

I like the Bridgestone Spitfire series for mine. Good availability and mid range price (In the U.S. anyway).
90 mm width is the closest to the original tire width. 100 mm will fit.
I use the 120 mm width for the rear.
