Junked the bags and fairing
new manifolds cleaned the carbs
Junked the cone filters for a ebay air box
did the valves and new cam plugs to stop oil leak
new lower rear shocks
new front shock oil seals and brake pads
Its big and ugly compared to the 78 KZ1000 so decided it might make a good Mad Max 2 tribute so I found a Quicksilver Vetter faring on Ebay, rattle caned the tank and side panels cut off the rear section and this is were I am at with it

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

Me too, I bought a 1975 DT400 just like in the last post for $995.00 brand new.
KZ1000 shaft was only made in 1979-80. This one is a 1980, not a 1981, not that it matters. Good luck anyway.

thats my good dt400, it is in line for 12v conversion when I get the funds...I just sold the XT500 in the pic with it...it got to be a pain in the ass to kick start at my age (the 400 is easy) so I used some of the funds to get a bike with 12v, disc brakes, and electric start, my 83 KZ1100. a step into the modern age.

I suddenly lost all interest in this project!
My Ebay purchase 1978 Kawasaki KZ 1000 A2 got delivered to work today.
Original paint unmolested 16000 on the clock. Only things not original are the 4 into 1 exhaust (period correct) and the shitty LTD seat (I have the correct seat coming from E-bay) but I kinda like the aftermarket exhaust.
