Hey everyone. With a new project bike on its way, it's time to part with my first bike. I'm trying to put a value on it and with it being my first bike, the sentimental value is probably worth more than the bike is. What's a reasonable price to ask for a stock, running 1981 Kz550 LTD with a fresh top end rebuild?

I'm in Northern Virgina. I've checked KBB and its saying the value is about 1000 dollars. I'm not sure whether or not this is accurate. I can't find another one on craigslist or ebay to see what they are actually selling for.

Fresh top end? I'd ask $2500 and maybe drop a little.

I'd say $1800 and go from there. $2500 is more of a California price.

It's more psychological than anything else. Weeds out the bums and gives room for the buyer to think he's getting a good deal. I don't say OBO on CL only eBay. Cash only too. Still get some flakes but not as many.

Not always how it works though steve. If I look at something and see $1500 worth of bike and you want $3000 I'll usually not bother trying to cut you in half; I'll just keep looking, and that's what a lot of CLers do is ask double and hope from there.
Be straight up in an ad and I will buy it that day. And my first thought from your pic was $1500. I had a similar one that I sold last year for a bit less than that

If you're able to do it, post it here in Richmond as well. It's not too far a drive and the 70's/80's Japanese bikes have really taken off in popularity here. Most of the KZ/GS/CB's I see on the 'List are gone within a week.

I ended up putting it on craigslist for 1800. I got a call from a guy yesterday who wants to come see it later on today. I'll keep you all updated to see if it sells for that amount.
