So with regards to the Hylomar liquid gasket the only good thing we found was that it kept the grime out of the engine, not so much the engine oil in. The original gasket that we fitted is pretty thick and encloses all fasteners, the Hylomar was not applied in a fashion so oil was pouring out along the fastener’s. This will be a fun season as we will find out if we are able to button her up dry.

Let’s say it took some serous degreasing and cleaning before Dag even thought of opening any engine cover. Not in the picture and cleaned by now, the rear engine mounts and the swingarm pivot was just a lump of grime and engine oil, unfortunately we didn’t take any pix . . . . . . .Just to say, the Hylomar gasket did a good job. Didn´t see any oil leaks!?!?

Still no sight of the brown seat . . . . .
But as I am changing out every rubber part on the fuel system the carbs had to come of one more time, in order to fit a new Suzuki fuel hose and then back on again just for the fun of it.
Then I could sync the carbs and check for air leaks, she idles like a champ.
She is rattling a bit when could (-2C outside this morning and there is no real heating in my workshop) but it disapperes when she starts warming up, I don’t know if it is a bad sign or just because I emptied the oil tubes replacing the crush washers.
The last rubber part out was the gas cap seal, haven’t been able to source a new (the part hasn’t got a Kawasaki part nbr), but the old got a good clean over and where left in alcohol and glycerin for a few days, it usually brings back a bit of life.
I have been trying to buy a rear indicator second hand, but to no avail, have bought two but ended up with front indicators with shorter steams. . . . .
Hoping for third time’s a charm.
Now I just have to polish up the paint work while waiting for the seat and hacksaw blades.
So now it's time for the Gpz1100 to go back up on the lift.

I made my own replacement gasket for the fuel cap. I ordered a small sheet of Buna-N rubber at the right thickness and cut it out. McMaster Carr has it.

Right Skidmark, some years ago I bought some non OEM KZ1300 fuel cap gasket/seal that are totally flat that I have been using on my older GPZ’s they look like this:
But on the Gpz900R ZX900A they have an indentation (is it the right word in this context?) that makes it fit snuggly around the locking mechanism.
Hmm Howard, 3D printing. . . . haven’t thought about that, a drawing is whipped up in minutes, but what filament is soft and is fuel/alcohol resistant? So far I have only been printing with hard filaments.
It’s no biggie, I did manage to soften it up in glycerin and ethanol, that usually helps for a year or so.

Well it looks like the brown seat and the exhaust bandages have to sit it out until next winter, bummer. So I guess I have to rely on the ribbed rubber for my summer pleasures.
Left the newly refurbished tank sitting with 10l of fuel over a sink for a week, just to make sure that the petcock and the new gaskets are doing their job and they are doing it just fine.
Finally a license plate light showed up from the middle kingdom as the original is so butt ugly and on my third attempt I manage to score the correct rear turn signal second hand and she is done!
Unfortunately the MOT stations here are not open to test bikes yet, but I have booked the earliest I could find, which is on 22Mar.
Might as well be a good thing, as it started to snow as I left the workshop.
