So, the story goes that I saw kz900 engine for sale on ebay that was still in the frame. I contacted the guy to see if he had the whole bike or was it already too late in the part out process. Low and behold he had all the parts unsold, and was willing to sell me the bike. In a moment of fuzziness, and too many Miller Lites I bit. Paying a little bit more than I probably should have, there will be a new project parked in my garage next week. I'm debating whether to go full restoration , make it my own, or keep the cosmetics as they are and just make it a rider. Wish me luck, its in route from California to Alabama as we speak.

Nice project!  Some basic stuff is missing, but nothing that can't be dealt with.  Looks like a reasonably complete survivor.

If you don't go the restoration route, please don't do anything that can't easily be undone.  Like cut off frame bits.  Within reason, keep any OEM parts you remove, regardless of condition.  As is, it's unlikely to ever be worth less.

I agree with Jim.  Looks like it's an LTD version.  Whatever you do, take care of it.

I have several restored bikes along with a 2006 Goldwing with a sidecar. My wife has a 2019 Suzuki DR 650 for on and off road.

When I say make it my own i mean maybe a color change on the body work. I'm not cutting anything up. Maybe black with the stock gold pin stripe. Before getting it in my hands obviously it needs a seat( i have an old king ,queen ill put on there for the time being), a chain, new tires, and plug wires. I'm sure theres more but its hard to tell from pictures. It was an AZ bike so hopefully not alot of rust will be discovered.
Oh and supposedly it runs already, who knows how good.

I have a liking for things that look original, old and used. I recently sold my F9c for good money partly I believe because it hadn't been resprayed and had kept all it's original scratchers and fading. It's obviously down to personal taste but I'd be tempted to clear coat what you've got. It would be different if nothing else.

Nice find. I agree as mentioned make it your without hacking it up. That way you can give any potential buyer that OEM option. Please, please get ride of the hideous plug wire.

I found a decent 4-1 on marketplace for 100 bucks. I went through the carbs, put new ignition coils on,  Boom she fired right up and idled like a champ. Its running lean because of the pods and header so new jets are on the way. The rear brake was disassembled and extremely clean. I'm guessing the lack of humidity in California helped me out with this one. Holds fantastic for now. The front tire was replaced soon the rear will get the same treatment. Next hurdle is going through the front brakes and new sprockets and a chain. Fingers crossed ill make its maiden voyage next week. I also need a nut and back plate for the dummy lights. Surprisingly enough all the electronics work besides the turn signal buzzer. Im not sure if thats hooked up. i also installed new side cover grommets and foot peg rubbers. Really holding out on the paint. But it really needs an actual LTD seat. I have a spare ltd tank from a 1000 I threw on there might just get some repop sidecovers and tail to keep the orginals original. Oh yeah the tank that came with it is spotless inside.

I have one that I'd be willing to sell.  Send me a PM if you're interested.
