Also, J engine uses Hy-vo cam chain. No sprockety rollers.
Here is a pretty good description of the differences between the Z/KZ and J engines.

So I do have the 900 crank with 1000 jug and head. It looks like a re hone and some rings , the pistons are fine.I have adjustable cam gears, still need to measure cams to see if they are stock or reground.Im stripping the frame now for welding, finishing.I am looking into rear sprocket options as well for gearing down, for my bottom end pull I am looking for. No cracks in cases found yet. Since I am thinking a spare engine will be purchased for a power build, do I need to do ape main studs etc, or should I hold my $ for the hell raisin motor? I have not found too many bad parts just some age and gunk. Thanks for the help!

I am extremely busy with work, and I really want to ride this beast this spring ! So I am contemplating re assembling my bare aluminum engine and polishing the whole damn thing. Then sending it to ape letting them tell me what they need to do to it and finish my work and fork my cash over rather than running long on my jobs and fumbling through the intricates. calling them tomorrow to discuss with them.

Alright I will halt the frame work for now .After talking to APE Tech I need to get my damn head,crank,jug/pistons cleaned up and and sent out(separately he added)with an order form and contact info etc. He said they are 4+ weeks out on headwork. Im in Michigan and Spring is a very regional term but very close still. Now to start sanding some part in the bath tub, and making sure I got lots o compound ready. My new goal is boxed and shipped by tuesday next week. Now how much to contour on this is a thought.Im leaning towards rounded and reprofile to liquid shapes not hard lines similar to this super E, this is shaped not polished yet.

I must admit that I winced a little as I read the last post. I suspect some of the purist will faint hard.
However, considering the soft contours of the bodywork, softening the edges of the engine makes stylistic sense.

I have decided to not reshape. I don't want the purists to send me negative vibes! Really though most of the lines are already pretty smoothed just some slight mating of separate pieces and removal of casting lines.I think it would be cool to polish the cases but I want to leave the vin pad as is (really nice clean numbers and pad so I will let them tell there age).I am having the hardest time deciding the engine color combo there is the grey, the black, the shiny and there is so many good examples out there but I cannot lock down my thoughts on this one. I know I overpost but thats how much crap is in my head ! Hope everyone makes some money and gets laid today!

To calm the worried ,here it is.and I think where it will stay.I really like the rough polish, I would call it.I think this will fit my look but keep the edge of the KZ( and I don't have to sand it down for another twenty hours and polish twenty more). I bet I have 12
hours into stripping, plugging, cleaning, repeat.on the head at this point.

Nice. Polishing, when well done, is really tedious work. I was envisioning an almost melted look, flowing with the wind..........
