I did a bit more work on it today (Covid-19 lock-down is not all bad). I fitted the throttle cables and exhaust pipe, note the heat guards held in place with lock-wire to check placement. The guards are stainless steel and were cut by water-jet, I will bend a curve on the top and bottom and weld nuts on the pipes to fix them in place. Next job sort the rear fender.

Great looking scrambler.
Not that these old bikes came with great suspension, but a harsh ride could indicate that it is over sprung or over damped.

Great job. The bike looks fantastic Pookie.
As for the shocks... they look like the same aftermarket ones I had a few years ago. They are way too harsh for a 550, I can't imagine them on a 400. My friend put them on a 750 and they were harsh. I think they should be used on nothing lighter than a 1000. Like Texas said, they are way over sprung AND over damped.

I would seriously consider Ikon, the old Koni shocks built by new owners. Restocycles carries them. There is a link at the top of the page.

Not going to order just yet as don't think I will be out riding it for a while.

Now that some of the lock-down restrictions has been relaxed here in the UK, I have paid the road tax and insurance, so she is now road legal.
I've just been on a 15 mile shake down test ride and I'm very pleased with how it rides. Took it down a two mile dirt track ending in a steep climb and the engine pulled like a train!
