Hi All, a couple of months ago, I picked up a totally used up 1984 GPZ1100 from Craigslist for a song.
Question for everyone. This bike has a chrome grab rail and chrome foot peg brackets and black wheels. Looking through the hundreds of images online, I have only seen one other with the chrome parts, all others are black. Some have black wheels instead of the red. Does anyone know of any significance to the chrome parts?
Before pic.
It is nearly finished with a full frame up refurbishment. Will be posting finished pics in a couple of weeks.
So far, rebuilt engine (gaskets, valve grind with seals, replaced oil lines, rebuilt brakes front and rear, new tires, battery, cleaned injectors, chain/sprockets, turn signals , cables, levers, grips, throttle tube, gas tank, fuel sender unit, swing arm (pinch bolt collar cracked), fork rebuild, anti-dive rebuild and a bunch of smaller stuff. Currently painted with about 1/2 of the decals on, need to finish decals, clear coat and repair seat foam and replace the seat cover and start riding.

Interesting. The parts diagram at Partzilla does not show that grab bar at all. I wonder if it was a dealer installed accessory?

Kawasaki on their microfishe has the stock grab rail listed on the "Battery Case/Tool Case" section!!!!! Part number is 35011-1201 and is NLA.
I always believed there was some little Japanese fellow in Japan who's job it was to hid certain parts on the microfishe so most parts people would never find them!!!
Finish on the grab rail from factory was kinda of a semi-gloss black finish.

Nice looking bike.
Wheels wise, US market bikes seem to come with black wheels with polished rims and spoke edges. European bikes came with red wheels with polished areas. I think the polished grab rail was probably done to remove damaged paint or similar.

I have seen both in the US, not sure what/why the differences. I didn't find any mention of a difference between red wheel / polished grab rail and peg mounts vs. the red wheels with black peg mount and grab rail. Funny that the microfiche shows "grey" wheels only, as far as I can tell, so I am not sure what the right answer is. Some of the advice above said black grab rail and peg mounts regardless of the wheels, so I did that.
