There is nothing good on the bike. I'm starting with a frame and top engine case. The crank is junk , trans is junk and I'm hoping my buddy can repair the lower case, it;s cracked and and one of the mount lugs for the point housing is busted off. the timing chain guide was broke off, in two pieces caught in the crank etc.

I used PJ1 fast black

Today I was going to drop off the frame to get media blasted, figured with all the repairs that were needed i'd give it one more look see inspection. I chased out all the threads and found a broke bolt in the tail section mount. How the hell does someone break off a bolt here wtf ? So instead of proper repair the idiot PO drilled and tapped a new hole.

I'll have to cut that piece off and remove the hacked up nut and tack on new nut or try to drill and heli coil it if possible. This bike is starting to be a headache

Sorry, but a broken M6 screw should be an easy out for you (me) with the right tools!!!
Make a center punch and use a counter clockwise drill 4mm.

Yes I know EZ repair, it's just mind boggling that one person( the previous owner) can butcher up an entire motorcycle. This should be my last repair before frame gets blasted painted and final assembly

Nice work on this project. It's moving along nicely.

For that broken frame bolt, I'd first drill out the stub of that original M6 screw. LH bits work well. Then weld up the buggered hole, drill, and retap. I think that would be easier than trying to remove and replace the entire tab.

GregZ: I share your frustration with "How did anyone ever think this was the right answer for a fix??" Looking back I had some related training and a mentor. Many people are interested in trying repair/restore but don't have a mentor. Too often there does seem to be a lack of any common sense or desire to search for the right answer. Fascinating project as it is using most your experience and skill. Since I'm not the one going through the brain damage it makes for a great read.

Scirocco: I don't have any background as a machinist. Your pics of the various sizes of center punches has answered a long time question of mine. That being "How in the bloody hell do you get a bolt punched in the exact center." Punching one free hand guarantees this guy will be helicoiling or weld/drill/tap. Now I get it.
