Is that the remains of their pet frog that went missing 5 years ago (on the oil pump mesh). Sorry about the late entry I just saw this thread, its great to see that you are going ahead with this build.GregZ wrote: This by far is the biggest piece of chit I ever seen. I knew it the day it showed up on the trailer, I knew then to cut my loss and sell, let some other idiot restore. But I'm a dumb ass so I'll give it my best.
There is nothing good on the bike. I'm starting with a frame and top engine case. The crank is junk , trans is junk and I'm hoping my buddy can repair the lower case, it;s cracked and and one of the mount lugs for the point housing is busted off. the timing chain guide was broke off, in two pieces caught in the crank etc.
look at this crap
First Permanent ride the Z1R since Dec1977 (220,000km) as of June 2015
Second permanent bike 1989 FJ1200 dyno'd 140RWH, great bike.
Third ride is now the Frankenstein 1981 GPZ1100B1, 1983 fully recon motor fitted LOVE THIS BIKE
Forth my work bike FJ1200 1989 (same type as FJ above)

GregZ wrote: It's looking better. A few more minor things and the engine will be done . Nothing was reused from the texas turd engine except the cases. New used crank, block stock bore pistons new rings. New used head, new valves , guides and seals. New used clutch basket and brand new clutch plates. trans thoroughly inspected and near perfect shift forks. New cam chain and rollers and gromets An incredible rebuild
Nice work! What did you spray the engine with?
Kawasaki

Make a center punch and use a counter clockwise drill 4mm.

For that broken frame bolt, I'd first drill out the stub of that original M6 screw. LH bits work well. Then weld up the buggered hole, drill, and retap. I think that would be easier than trying to remove and replace the entire tab.
Good luck

Scirocco: I don't have any background as a machinist. Your pics of the various sizes of center punches has answered a long time question of mine. That being "How in the bloody hell do you get a bolt punched in the exact center." Punching one free hand guarantees this guy will be helicoiling or weld/drill/tap. Now I get it.
Tools, tools, tools. I swear I'll never quit buying them because I'll always need a new one that does XXX
