Hey guys, just picked up a 83 kz750. Always loved that bike and knew one day had to have it. I am just finishing a 3 year resto of an A1 ninja 900. So I have a little experience but not enough. My first issue is should I to do a little Eddie lawson tribute or keep it stock? Input appreciated but leaning towards stock. Can you guys share your experience with part sources and anything I should be focusing on with the bike? It is in pretty good condition with 37000 kilometers. Bike has never been down with only 3 owners. I live in Ancaster , Ontario and need a painter, plus vapour blaster etc etc. Any part sources much appreciated, have found some but would like to know who is best. Thanks in advance, prepare for lots of questions . Long live Kawi !

Hello and welcome in the community of Kawasaki enthusiasts
We love bike pics and your pics too.
If your bike is in pretty good condition i would leave it stock.
But as i say, the wish is the father of all thoughts and why not go the Eddie Lawson tribute way.
Keep going, show us your project bike.
Michael

I have a 1980 Kawasaki KZ750 Ltd. I bought new. I recently managed to get it out of my garage after 28 years and put it on the road again (2010). I feel like a kid all over again. Since I have acquired 3 78 KZ1000 Ltd, 1 1981 KZ1000 Ltd, and another 1980 KZ750 Ltd. Love the LTD's.

Stock bikes keep their value and if you ever want to sell, its a plus. In Canada I would look at Diablo Cycles or Reproduction Decals out of London, Ont., in the USA check out Jeff Saunders at Z1 Enterprises, or Z1 Parts Inc.

I'd keep it stock IMO Or Just resto-mod as you'd like ELR repros are pretty common, stock L3s aren't. You can use parts from the 700A and the 750R1. All the bodywork is all the same between them and there are just slight variations in other areas like the triple trees and handle bars but you can mix or match a bit if you like. The KZ750P shaftie has a lot of common parts as well. The bodywork is slightly different could be used if wanted. For example, I have a R1 and am using the top triple clamp from a KZ700A so I can use drag bars and it was a straight over swap. I've also ued parts off KZ750Es and Spectres.
Other parts you can use are from the air cooled ZR7. The engine is only slightly modernized and there are some on here that have done full swaps into their KZ750/650s. I'm using a header off one and love it.

Thanks for the replies. I have decided to keep it stock. That was attracted me to it back in the day. The body work is all there and actually pretty good. Just need paint and decals, I used Diablo for my 900 so will get them there. My first priority is a new exhaust system. Any ideas? Type, 2/1,4/1? Stock? Everything on the bike works and it runs great. I plan on freshening it up with new rings, carb rebuild and shocks.I am hoping to complete within a year?I will post "before" pics soon. More questions coming.I am sure.

I had one of those brand-new in '83, and it was a terrific bike until it got wrecked.
I always thought it was one of the best looking paint schemes ever.
On mine, I was riding down the street in '84 and a piece of plastic, like visqueen blew into me, melted into the pipes, and I replaced it with a chrome 4 into 1 and it looked great.

You can get ZR7 exhaust systems for pretty cheap. They're stainless and bolt right to the head. You'll have to fashion some hangers at the collector and muffler. You will have to take the center stand off.
The oem R1/1000D/1100B fairings are very rare and use equally rare hardware. There are replicas that use more generic hardware that are pretty close.

Okay guys. Thanks for the replies. So far I have sourced most parts. Also ordered a Delkevic exhaust. Still need engine gasket kit, hopefully a complete kit. Also looking for stock grips. Have checked suggested sites but no luck. On another note the signals flash at a much slower rate on the left side than the right? Relay? Part #? Thanks in advance. Pics soon.
