Retroactive KZ750E Project Thread

I probably didn't word that so well. I have a good 2k clear, it was more of a question of whether it was better to just leave the polished bits as they were (upkeep vs. yellowing etc.). I ended up doing a clear coat this morning, now I don't have to worry about the paint peeling of at the edges (was mostly concerned about the clutch cover). The AC and timing covers weren't polished as well as the clutch cover (was sick of polishing) but the clear coat made the sanding marks less obvious.
Won't help you much, but I get all my paint from these guys: www.motorradlack.de
The clear coat for engines shouldn't go yellow for temps under 160 °C (will be interesting to see how the cooling fins on the head hold up over time) and it's supposed to stick to polished aluminium - I guess we'll see. I do trust those guys, they specialise in bikes and given that after all the shit I've dropped on my frame there still isn't a mark on it, I think I should be fine
Must be about time to start a project thread...

I read the KZ 750 project.
It is very versatile and I learn a lot from it.
I wasn't careful, I can't find where you bought the sticker set ... (blue-black on the tank, fenders)

3M pinstripe tape was used. Laid down the stripes by hand. 3M makes good shit and I purchased direct from them to assure a fresh batch. My application could have been a little better, particularly on the side covers, but they turned out good enough.

Dr. Gamma wrote: I love what you did with your KZ750E. I followed your build for a long time. Congrats on making BOTM!!!! I built a KZ750E back in the early 80's. I used many of the same parts you did. The GPz feetpegs, and the oil cooler were the same exact parts that I used on my E model. Your build brought back more than a few memories.
I road raced mine in a few WERA endurance races back then. I parked it when the Honda Interceptor came out in '83. After that it became my primary streetbike. Gold wheels were my trademark back then as you can see in the one photo.
Gold wheels eh? Seems fitting for the era.
Hi ED, do you by any chance remember what the gold paint you used to paint your wheels was ?, I've been looking for gold wheel paint myself and some of it is just far to bling for my liking.

Dr. Gamma is the guy with gold wheels, not me. You might want to PM him for info.

This was before powder coat. I clean all my coated rims with a rag with carb cleaner sprayed on it. This stuff is as durable as today's powdercoats!!!!
