GPZ 1100 resto mod 'Old Red'

After a couple years of planning, I have finally began the resto mod project on my beloved 1982 GPZ 1100 that I affectionately call 'Old Red'.

I bought the front end and rear end off of a 2006 GSXR 600. My inspiration was user JARRAD's new project/old skool project. I am using the GSXR 600's wheels in lieu of the wire wheels on jarrad's

Here are pics from the swap of swing arm starting. Had the spacers made almost 2 years ago by a vendor at work. I thought the space was 9.75" and had offset the swing arm to the left to create the clearance for chain. Unfortunately it was 9.25''. I cut it down and faced them up.

I fabbed up the upper shock mount and welded it in. The front end went in with the all balls bearings swap.

Everything has gone smoothly thanks to all the information I have gleaned on this wonderful community.

My next hurdle is the linkage back to the centerstand cross member. I believe I will be putting new 12 mm wide ears (1/2" ground down to 12 mm) with a clevis on the new ears and rod ends on the gixxer linkage.

Nice project mate! Funnily enough here is Jarrad's GPZ in my shed. A friend of mine bought it and took the rolling chasis and I got the motor.

Oh man, that's a shame. Hopefully, I don't run into the same road block. I wondered what had happend. I am hoping to make it a runner and get a lot of the kinks out before tearing it back down for paint.

Does anyone have a source for drop/gull wing top triple clamps? i have seen them in other builds, but can't remember who had made them? Leon?

Thanks for the heads up. I hope to have the linkages for the monoshock installed this week. once I look at it's stance, I will decide what I want to do. I would like to a top triple that actually accepted handlebars and didn't say suzuki. I will have to do something. just not sure what yet.

Parts for the linkages are on their way, just need to fab up tabs on the centerstand cross member.

not sure what year front end you have.
but i purchased an upper triple from these guys for a busa front end on a cb750 i am building for a customer.

I have seen their triple tops. They are definitely my first option. The more I think about it, the more I wish I had and mill and a late to fab up my little tidbits.

Spent some time this weekend and today getting the bottom tension linkage lugs and tension linkages installed. I got the parts at Midwest controls. I made it adjustable so that I adjust the rear height. I am not proud of the weld quality but it should hold. Next move will be to pull the swing arm and scrub off the rear tabs for the old footrests/exhaust supports and clearance the for the chain at the frame.

Has anyone done a similar rear swap with a gsxr swing arm? I am looking at drive sprocket options out there. Does anyone have a ballpark offset that I will need?
