Kiwi GPZ

Small side step from chain slack and we are onto headers! Bog standard stainless Bandit 1200 headers that look pretty yuck to be honest. As we know this is a budget build so they have to stay but they really do look yuck! Enter hydrochloric acid! Sounds dodgy which kind of suits this bike. Liberally painted with acid and then neutralised with baking soda. Just like new! Well not really but a hell of a lot better than they looked before. 



Don't forget, safety first!

Carbs all re-jetted, new throttle cables, and back together. I bought a set of Piper Cross pod filters for two reasons. They are really good filters and they are quite compact. Not alot of room to fit pod filters on the carbs once the tank goes on. With the Piper Cross ones I don't have to compromise on a good filter to get things to fit. As you can see from the photos it's super tight but everything fits.......just!

Times moves slowly but the GPZ is still ticking along! Finished the oil cooler finally. All painted and mounted.


Also mounted and finished the exhaust. Very expensive Chinese Akrapovic lol. Yes, this is a very budget build.

Even managed to sort my shit out and refurb and fit the front calipers! The Tokico calipers are from a 2002 GSXR600 as they have the same mounting hole distance as the ZZR1100 forks. Cheap upgrade but they were in pretty bad shape. Bolts were well rusty and didn't want to budge so a bit of Kroil overnight and out they came. New seals and pads and like new again!

Nice to see some progress Larriken, I have got my Gpz1100 A2 frame back from paint and have started the build up, pix will follow but right now I am ordering 900 parts 
I really like those Tokico 4pods, 62mm bolt spacing, easy to work with and gives some real stopping power (even though Nissin is a cooler brand name)

Looking forward to seeing your progress! I have a terrible time with focus sometimes. I start ordering parts for projects I don't plan to get to for a year or two 

I dug out the ZZR1100 chain guard to see if it would look okay. Pretty ugly bit of plastic if I'm honest.


Thought a few speed holes might look better!!! 




Turns out...........no, it doesn't make it any cooler   It's just so damn big! Next plan is to draw one up and get it lazer cut.

 

That's some serious weight savings achieved there larriken.

Like the new look of your modified chain guard!

I got a couple of brackets lazer cut to fit the coils. Now that the coils are in I just need to fill her up with oil, find a battery, and I can fire her up!
