I did think about the 1831 being a little harsh that's why I used carbs I was not worried about.
here's some pics of after the 1220 cleaner and before the 1831 cleaner. I'll get some pics from after the 1831 cleaner

Those look really good, Eddie! I think I need to extend the length of time and drop the temp a little when I'm using the 1220. I've been using 30 mins @ 65*C as my 'standard' exposure. My results have been good, but not as clean as those, judging by the photos above.

It'll be interesting to see what the 1831 removes that the 1220 left behind. I think that SharperTEK probably has to issue that warning on the 1831 for liability issues. As that IS a slightly acidic formulation, if used at full strength for an extended time it probably will begin to eat at aluminum surfaces. Diluted per instructions and neutralized straight after the tank and it's probably not a real-world issue.

Look forward to seeing the post-1831 pics!

Edit to add: I think that I'm going to drain my tank this evening and try some of that SC-1000 that I was talking about. I have an old set of Mikuni 26's to run a test with. Unfortunately they're not in bad shape to start with.

Looking forward to hearing what Pinsol does to your carburetor bodies.
It turned my carbs a very dark charcoal gray and it took forever to get them back to an aluminum color buy soda blasting!

I think that you're replying to Kidkawie's post.

I wouldn't use Pinesol on my carbs, and I'm not surprised that it turned yours gray, especially if you had them coated in it while still exposed to the air. I think Kidkawie had his totally immersed, which would help to greatly slow down the oxidation reaction.

If you look at the MSDS for Pinesol it has a pH of 2-3 in its undiluted form (it contains glycolic acid). Anything that acidic is going to eat up the surface. Most aluminum 'brighteners' that I've come across ARE acid-based; usually fluoroacetic, but if left on the surface for more than a few minutes and/or not neutralized properly, they will oxidize the heck out of the surface, turning it a gray to dark gray color.

before and after of the carb holders. As you can see the cleaner did take the rust off the choke lever

Thanks, Eddie.

Maybe that's a 'dead spot' in your tank causing the problem. I'm not saying that you have a transducer going bad, but that the way parts are laid out in the basket can apparently affect the effectiveness of the ultrasonic wave patterns.

I had no chance to drain my tank and test the colloidal/micelle solution last night or tonight (Kids' dramas, etc.,) but I'm hoping to have some idea by the end of this weekend. More to follow!

Thanks for subscribing Stev-o!

I only sold my first-born into a month or two of slavery for the Doremi repros/MRS exhausts. Didn't kill him. Probably made him stronger.

Should I need to raise some more cash for Z-1 parts, then I have a '78 CB750-K8 with less than 8K miles that might have to find a new home ...

Activity might be slow for the next week or so.

I'm waiting on my new 'fat' compressor while deciding on the extent of the head rebuild needed. (valves/springs/guides - three-angle seat rehab, cam bearings etc.) Fun!!
