Duplicolor also makes a caliper a specific paint. I believe it comes and gold as an option I bought it in black, just have not used it yet.

Wondering about success with using Gun-Kote to color a caliper, and its resistance to brake fluid. :unsure:

Please use DOT 5 brake fluid. It wont hurt your calipers paint.

PROBLEM.......You cant mix DOT 3 or 4 with DOT 5....they aren't compatible.

You will need to flush out the old dot 3 or 4 fluid from the brake system. Might even want to disassemble the caliper and master cylinder and clean parts.

You wont be disappointed. Even being very careful, you can spill or squirt fluid on stuff. DOT 5 wont hurt paint.

On maintenance, some say DOT 5 attracts H2O. So you might have to changes fluid every year.

My DOT 5 is a light purple. When it turns to a light purpleish brown. I flush the system and put in new fluid......about every year. Takes me about an hour at the most.

Dot 3 , 4 and 5.1 brake fluids are glycol based and are hygroscopic , they absorb moisture and should be changed regularly. Dot 5 brake fluid is silicone based and is not hygroscopic. It will not attack most finishes like the glycol based fluids. Dot 5 fluid should only be installed into a dry uncontaminated brake system. Any trace of glycol based brake fluid can cause corrosion problems. Most manufacturers recommend that a system filled from dry with silicone fluid does not require the fluid to be changed at intervals, only when the system has been disturbed for a component repair or renewal. I have used Dot 5 in two of my bikes and I change it every 10 years. Harley has used Dot 5 fluid in their bikes so your local HD dealer should have it in stock. The only down side to using Dot 5 fluid is that it does not provide the same level of brake feel or feedback that is obtainable with using fresh glycol (Dot 5.1) fluid.

Time for an update.

After hours and hours of wiring, measuring, beeping through wires, terminating connectors.... my wiring harness is 95% completed. Doesn't look all that pretty yet, need to put it on the bike and make sure that it's 100% before i tidy and wrap things up:



I've fit all the elctronics into my custom tray. Needs some tidying up in there, I will fasten the components which are not bolted down with some industrial velcro. I have in there my RF ID ignition circuit, my failover key ignition (in case the RF ID fails ;) ), LED relay, engine kill relay (the switch on my controls are N.O. so I need a relay), stock rectifier/regulator underneath the tray for cooling and the stock fuse box:



For the wiring I've made this basic diagram that I've followed. It might miss a couple of things, but these are my basic thoughts on the wiring:



I hope I've got it all sorted out. My initial on the bench tests seem to work. I will try putting it onto the bike in the next few days and test the basics, lights, blinkers, starter signals etc.

Finally an update to this thread ;-) I have been working long nights for the past week after getting my top back from the shop. The install of Gpz1100 cams went smooth and everything after that. I got the bike finished today and manned myself up to push the start switch. It actually fired. Woohooo!!! I have some adjustments to do on the carbs and the dyna ignition timing, will look at that tomorrow.

Sounds like you're pretty much done Tommy! Great news! A lot of projects here never get finished for one reason or another. I see a lot of unfinished projects on craigslist as well of all different makes. Glad to see yours was not one of them. Be sure you post lots of pictures once you have her 100%.
