81 KZ 750 LTD Restoration. was created by TOOLS1
Hey guys. I hope my picture resizing works. Here is a picture of the 750 LTD I found sitting in a basement since the mid 80"s. It only has 8520 miles on it. It had sat, and the owner tried to get it going, and took the carbs off. He took them apart, and that's as far as he got. Now between taking them off, and taking them to someones shop, they are now lost. I have been pricing them, and the salvage yards want anywhere from $175.00 to $350.00. Too much! Does anyone know if the cheaper 550/650 carbs will fit? Also there are two wires by the battery box that are not connected to anything, and two more on the left side not connected. Can anyone tell me what they connect to? I have installed a new battery, and the head, and tail lights work, but the turn signals just stay on, and the starter button does not work. I hope these are because of the disconnected wires.
Any help would be appreciated!

As nice as that bike looks I'd try and find a set of BS34 Mikunis to put on your bike. The VM series Mikunis will fit but you will need to buy both new manifolds and new air filters. Also you are going to run into a problem with where the petcock comes out of the tank it will hit the tops of the carbs on the VM series carbs. You could use a tank from an 81 650 CSR but that is the only year tank that will work because the 81's used the VM24 carbs. At the end of the day you will have more money in it trying to save money than if you just get the proper carbs. I would stay away from the Kehins that it came with, they are pretty much crap and are not as easy to get replacement parts for. Mukuni provides good support for their products Sudco can get most anything you would need. You will also be able to use your stock airbox system with the BS34's. I wish I could find a bike in that kind of condition, it looks like it will be a very easy restoration. Good luck with it.

Can't help with the wires, sorry. I'm not that good yet to be able to identify them by sight.
As for the carbs, have you checked Ebay? You could probably find a decent set on there, and rebuild them yourself.

Oh, and great find. :)

Thanks, for the replies guys. I am always catching it from the guys on my CB 750 forum because of all the deals I find on bikes. B) What year, and model bikes used the BS34 carbs? I looked on e-gay, and only found one set, for this bike, and they were $200.00 plus shipping.

Hey Tools,

Good score on the bike. I loved my 750. Check the filebase here on the site and there is a color wiring diagram that will really help you out in figuring out the wiring. I'm pretty sure the ones you are talking about on the left side are "auxilaries" for extra connections. I'd also recommend buying a Factory Service Manual. I used the crap out of mine getting the bike running.

Afraid I can't help much with the carbs. Both my previous bikes had the stock CV34's, but Gringo is correct....parts are hard to come by and you literally can't get pilot jets anymore for them. However, I did check some other places and they were all pricier than $200.

Good luck!

I'm not 100% sure, but the unused wires in the 2nd photo are probably accessory leads. I believe the small fuse box in the 3rd pic is for the accessories, so if nothing has been added to the bike, those will be unused.

Tools,
I'm new and I found the service manual for the KZ750 H. I recently posted a zzipped file of it in the filebase. If you can't find it there pm me and I can email it to you or try to post it again. I also have other manuals for most of the KZ series.
