The little things are killing me!

Quick update on the Z1R restoration (my original 1978 that I bought back as a near total wreck a few years ago)

I've decided that the resto will be around a 95 point show bike (but one I plan on riding daily)

The quest for NOS has been a freak-show with so little out there (needle in a haystack) and often when I did find stuff the shipping was insane (although some places were great and I will acknowedge them when I'm done) Some guys not so nice: I paid $32.50 for a rear master cylinder diaphragm and plastic liner plate (you could easily hide these 2 parts in a closed hand and they combined to weigh about 5 grams! Some real pirates out there.

Happily I got a "Holy Grail" NOS part. A NEW MINT in box seat! With my body work perfectly painted (every bit as good as original) my seat was showing it's age. Paid too much but I had to have it. I have never seen one on auction in over 5 years. In fact hardly ever even a used one.

I so regret the loss of the early pictures I took of the thing when I got it home 8 years ago. Had the pics on a laptop that died and could not retrieve them. It was very, VERY rough looking. The fact the guy still had the original exhaust is the only reason I bought it (he'd hung a Kerker on it the day he bought it from me) It had been crashed at least 4 times and it was one big rusty scrape... but the cases were good (thanks to engine guards) and it had low miles.

It's been an on again, off again project but this time I'm finshing it.

Have about 6 packages of small stuff onroute and they will be it! I actually found an elusive rear right footpeg here in my home town of little ol' Winnipeg. It came up on a cross dealer search from New York of all places.

Pieced together a rear master cylinder one part at a time and except for a slightly disclored reservoit it look like new.

The thing that ticks me off the most is SUPESEDED parts! So many of the original parts have been replaced with others that in many cases (like the fairing screws) are completely different.

See here: The one on the right is the original and the one on the left is the superseded part. Different size and shaped head and 10mm screw length instead of the correct 15mm. Finally found the originals.

The small stuff will drive ya bonkers!

Had the pics on a laptop that died and could not retrieve them.

If you still have the old laptop, you can pull the hardrive out of it and place it in an external USB 2.5" hard drive enclosure. You would need to know what kind of drive you have in there (IDE or SATA)in order to get the right enclosure. Of course this would work only if your laptop died for reason(s) other than hard drive failure. If the drive is ok, you can retrieve any information (your Z1R pictures) from it and afterwards use as a back up drive for your new computer.

Sadly the laptop is gonzo...
