80 LTD 1000 special edition? was created by purple_haze
long story short, ive been trying to get going on a project with a couple pretty rough project bikes, well i put an ad on craigslist seeing what would turn up and a guy called me from a town over with a 83 kz1000 he wanted to get rid of, i went to check it out, its an 80 ltd 1000 with a strange paint job, the bike is clean, especially compared to the junk ive been working with, inside of tank is clean, runs drives, under 10k on clock, its gonna take some work to get the title but its doable, we agreed on $500 and i pick it up tomorrow. I did a little research and the same bike went for $2600 with no title and twice the miles a couple days ago. Ive always liked the black/charcoal 80 ltds and never seen this wierd scheme, but the ebay ad says it was a special edition with only 2 per dealer.
Can anybody verify this? Ill wash the bike when i get it home and post up some pics, here is the ebay link...you might have to copy and paste it...or search ltd 1000 in completed listings, it sold for $2650

i had one and a friend had one, both 80s with charcoal/blk, if you do a search on google image the 79 and 81 both look similar, and 80 ltd 1000 is the only search that turns up blk/char, and no blue, did you look at he ebay listing, it has wierd stylized feather like pinstripes, is that how your were?

I can verify that the bike in question is a 1980 paint scheme...that was one of several variants available that year. What I cannot do, is verify that it is a 'special edition' of two motorcycles/dealership. I have never seen any literature anywhere that states the above...Kawasaki is notoriously problematic on getting production information, particularly for numbers of variants within a production run. I suspect the seller is using a bit of literary license. Good score on the $500 LTD...the selling price on the eBay LTD was about right for a title-less bike in that condition (the 80 LTD's tend to bring a bit more, particularly in that good shape).

i think whoever designed the color/sticker combinations on the ltds in the late 70s must have a full set of smokey and the bandit vcr tapes, and possibly the full saturday night fever box set! :woohoo:

here she is, i think the combination or the dust and darkness and my imagination may have made her better in my mind, but im not complaining, the tail has a crack and the stickers are fading/peeling, and the chrome has some light pitting starting, but now i wont feel like i have to keep it stock, or sell it. I can build it my way, and save all the stock parts for when/if i sell it
