my kz550 project was created by baretta87
So here is my bike its a 1982 kz 550 ltd I got it from my grand pa who had it in his boat house I had seen it when I was much younger and always thought it was pretty cool. It sat for another 10 or 12 years before I saw it again.
When I got it it was dirty oily kinda crummy but not to bad. I didn't run the carbs had since dumped whatever gas was in it out the tires were totally rotten the brakes were seized seat was dried out and the tank was very rusty inside from sittin for so long.
So I tore it apart with a friend and a case or two of beer and a weekend.
Just got it runnin sorta and kinda fixed up. The rear brakes were toast so hung that up for the time being and some new paint helped.
Back from the first ride.
A few trials and tribulations carb work mainly, getting that dialed in was a learning experience but once I got all the odd silly stuff figuured out it was just what do I do to it now?? So the slight modifications began.
A little bondo and some paint, went with black cherry and metal flake Clear coat flames it was cool for a wile but it didn't turn out really the way I wanted
So I rocked that for a wile
Then I got bored and re did it one early morning or late night however you look at it

Re did the seat later put some purple led lights all over it

Finished it off with a different tail light and now I dunno what to do!! I'm out of ideas besides going on the extreme side of things

Take it from me cuz I found
If you leave it then somebody else is bound,
To find that treasure, that moment of pleasure,
When yours, it could have been.

Nice! I like all you did to it. But I saw in another thread you are looking to put pods and straights on it. I wouldn't like it then. Consider K&N drop in filter and nicely tuned 4 into 1 exhaust if you must. Less headaches, sounds better, runs better, less cop-ish attention and neighbors will still like ya. Around here the fines for loud exhausts are scarey. They'll overloon baffeled 4 into 1's but straights don't. Nice bike tho. I really like 550's. Great engine and transmission. GLuck

Thanks! But yeah the straights are more of a curiosity than anything never heard one done up with em. I do like the stock exhaust after I drilled out the bafflle on it its got a nice rap and a little volume. But ill look up that drop in its probably cheaper than the pods to.
