The other good news is the parts include an airbox.

If the camshaft is not what is holding it open, then yes. You have a bent valve.

turns out I hadn't rotated the crank, valve closed up.Now the real puzzler, I think I have a 78-79 wiring harness and a 77 motor. The stator is different. Can the regulator-rectifier work with the old stator or do i swap it out with the one from the pee motor? the cover on the 77 looks better. - thanks.
