My '82 GPz750R1. I just love the look of these things in 550/750/1000/1100 forms. Got this one cheap. New rings and a paintjob and it's ALMOST finished. Still need head work and change of steering-head bearings, but I still love riding it.
As bought:
..and now:
I'm not far away from finishing my next project ('78 Suzuki GS750), then I can go full steam on my next Kawaka .. '82 Z650. A big project. Purchased from a scrap metal merchant. I've started the body work. I also got it running. Will run OK, but is smokey. It's looking like a 750/810 candidate. I'll post more photos as work progresses:

Its a real shame, because despite it looking like a POS, once I got it running it all works and rides nice but it's just smokey as all ..
I'm following up a Z750 barrel/pistons for it. I'm assuming a late model Z650 head will be OK on the Z750 barrels?

Because the oil level window is "cloudy" I was unsure how much oil was in the 650 before I started it for the first time (I initially pulled all the plugs, put some oil in the cylinders, turned the engine over by hand, etc) I put about 2 litres of "some-type" of oil in it just to be sure.
When it was running it was really smokey .. oh well ..
When I dropped the oil last night 6 litres came out!! I'll refill correctly and see if it still smokes ..

I'm thinking of an 810 conversion on the 650 because it's already smokey. If I can find a decent 750 block (the 650 is a late model HyVo) I'll go for it 'cos the Aussie dollar is so good against the US$ at the moment the Wiseco kit looks like great value ..Cool bikes. Diggin' the GPz. Did you say you are going 810cc?
