Just picked up my KZ440 today! was created by aubska
I found a listing on craigslist last night for this 1980 KZ440. Free to a good home! I couldn't resist.
This is my first bike, save for the 50cc Yamaha I had as a kid. She's not in running condition right now, but hoping to have her at least start in the next couple weeks.
What do you guys think? Where should I even start with this? I'm planning on converting it into a cafe style bike.
Thanks!
Aubrey

Small, light, spoke wheels, twin cylinder= great for a cafe. Best thing to start with is a manual and some readin'. Guys here will have the answers to your questions.

first thing to do is rip that gas tank off and give it a good cleaning inside, dont laugh but Dawn dishwashing detergent works wonders along with hot water! let soak over night and do it again. and change all fluids

Congrats! You will have a blast, Fair warning...this hobbie is addictive...
The manual and this forum will keep you going, I ALWAYS start with brakes myself, then fluids. When I do get it running I want to be able to go and stop (while I am figuring out the rest). Have fun and good luck!

I'd like to get one of those too. Great find!
You can add a length of chain into the gas tank, shaky shaky, to help clean the rust.
