(Mostly) 1976 KZ750 Twin in a (Mostly) 1978 KZ200 frame (dont ask me what I was thinking)
Growing Pains was created by ElSombreroNegro
So now this kz200 has been under my butt for the better part of this summer, and it I really am enjoying the feel of a smaller bike. Steering is quick, no quirks around the twisties, and insurance is super cheap, However, the damn thing just refuses to do more than 65 (with a good tailwind).
SO.. i bought a 750 twin out of a '76 kz750b1 and am going to start the process of squeezing it in when the snow starts to fly. Should be fun, I have to lengthen the frame 5 3/4", among other things.
Here is my problem: I can do the mechanical parts, but I have no idea how the electronics hook up!
Can anyone tell me what from the kz200 I can use on the twin (like the regulator, rectifier, etc), and what wires go where?
Guess what I really need is a manual, but I am having alot of trouble finding one....

Not trying to discourage you, but you're in for a real learning experience about squeezing a big engine into a lttle frame. The frame will be a problem strength-wise as well as the size, but that's just where the problems begin. I once squeezed a BSA 500 twin into a BSA 350 single frame and there were tons of issues to be resolved that I had not considered. Eventually I worked through them and got it on the road. Putting a 750 into a bike made for a 200 engine? All I can say is I wish you the best of luck. Ed

Like I said, I can do the mechanical stuff; frame strengthening, heavier springs and shocks, lowering the seat frame to lower the center of gravity, double front calipers from a '78 kz650, all of that stuff I have in waiting.
I have made the measurements, and it is going to be tough, but doable, especially considering how damn bored I get in the winter (I am a pipefitter and structural fabricator, so work is slow for me during winter).
The torque figure is listed at 38.7 lbs @3,100.
Couple that with the lowest first gear multiplication of 3.4, and you get roughly 135 lbs of side and twisting force on the motor mounts.
By the time i get done elongating the frame and adding the wishbone down bars necessary for mounting the twin, it should be fully capable of keeping straight under that pressure.
Height wise, I could get away with leaving the top bar in place, but I would have to put ALL the electronics by the battery (which is what I may do anyway so I can keep from relocating the gas tank..), but for the time being... I am still stuck on the electronics and wiring issue..
Anybody with a wiring schematic?
