The bike is coming along nice.
When i have the bike insured and drivable (after new tires) Then i'll start to modify stuff.
This has been bothering me since you posted it...
That's an awfully nice Street Bike to "Cut Up" for Drag Racing...
Maybe another KZ Build is in your future. You know like a "Ground Up Build" of a "Nice Track Bike" you can run at your local Strip on Test & Tune night.
Build the bike to run into the 10's or so, and as your skills progress you "Tune" the bike faster.
If you are interested I have set aside a Frame, and some other parts for you.
Let me know Tim.

"Build it to run into the 10s?" In the 1/4?A 10 sec q mile Kawi is haulin arse and it would take some major wrench skills to 1.build a 10 sec bike, and 2.keep it together, plus some major seat time to make it run 10s consistently without hurting self or others.I dont think I would encourage folks to build and ride a 10 sec bike unless I knew a lot about their skill sets.Just my 2 cents.bjKitten Tooth wrote:

when i was 19 ,a friend and i would sit around .in a shop full of 70's leftover kz's and talk of making a ten second bike or a formula u.s.a big bore with everything stripped off it......and racing against the new generation of bikes just coming on the scene
We were so close and did not even know that by just being there with the bikes and the desire...the battle was near won...we had everything wee needed to go the next step...and did not...it will always bug me....now i know we were so close to getting on the tracks that we drove to weekends...
Age and commitmnets will grind the sharp edges off of a young mans dreams...but never his desires....those will haunt you for years if not wrenched out early...do it!!!
only problem is after your old ,that bravado is only a rumor or an act...
you can take a mostly stock gpz1100 and with some trianing and tunning and get ten second bike and even if it only goes twelve...who cares anyways....your doing it!!!
Do the things now while you still have fresh eyes and a young heart...they will be twice as fun as anyone should be allowed to have ....and it will never be a better time to try than now!!!
You can build one easier than any of us old farts and enjoy it twice as much cause it's all new!!!!
DO IT!!!!!!

I think if Tim wants to learn to Drag Race, it should be on a Bracket or a Strip Bike, at the Track where it's safe. Besides, Tim will have a license and seat time on his current bike before he is finished with the above mentioned project... If he accepts, and his Dad is ok with it.
And 10's is what your average 600cc Super Sport Bike can run right off the show room floor with Slight tweaking/proper set-up.
A 79-80 MKII with slight Nods, and proper set-up will run 11.4 12.00 all day...

everybody talks about the 600s running 10 sec 1/4s without breaking a sweat, but like ive said before at our little 1/8 mile track the above average guys on warmed over slammed and stretched busas are still running 6.6s-6.7s(somebody do the conversion there)
dont worry about what anybody else is running or how fast theyre running it,the only guy you need to beat on the last amber light is yourself!

8 years with 1st bn 75th INF took most of the scared from me too, along with my knees and 3 vertabrae in my back and a pace maker! Ill never forget what a very wise man who got me pointed in the right direction on my 1st z1 as a punk 14 year old kid told me,if it doesnt scare the shit out of you everytime you crack that throttle open you better park it till it does!Scared? Dont think so.8 years in 82nd Airborne Division took most of my scared.I probably was drag racing bikes when most people on this forum's parents were teen agers (that would be 1950s).My current KZ recently turned a sub-9 second 1/8th and it is pretty stock and I at age 72 was up.I am just saying that before I advised a young person to build and ride a 10 second 1/4 bike,he or she needs to learn a few things first-thats all.Dont be foolish -young or old.Oh and bye the bye,if Plummens post about Busas only runing 6.5 1/8ths, I think me and the Kawi did pretty damn well.Ride on,young dudes, ride on.bj

id say start by building a chassis that can safely run into the 10s with a motor built to run consistantly in the 12s and work your way up the ladder from there in my experiance anyway.
