Yeh, that is in fact a very questionable configuration but I was riding some long trips between Tucson/Phoenix and San Diego/LA for some years, and I put the Windjammer on to make that a more comfortable trip. The bike had no problems pushing that big ol' barn door at "transit speed." Ahem.

i always though an old kz cop bike with a pump gas friendly 1197 motor would make a nice cross country sleeper!

Thank you very much, mark1122! That's a great tip and I'll stash it away for the project.

You know, I'm not really set on any particular goals yet except that I want this to be pristine/perfect (you'd have to talk to my wife and kids to know how freaked out I am about my transportation). I know the powdercoat and paint alone will run almost 2K as I'm having the wheels (Lesters), frame, side panels, swingarm and tank done by an aircraft restoration expert-I've seen his work-he deserves every penny. Might have something done with the fork sliders, too...
Figured the engine would run $5K alone as it'll have to be completely disassembled, cleaned, and will probably beg for new engine studs (the originals are still in it, all 'coiled). Might need some chemical/blasting cleanup and such, and a new wastegate and various turbo componentry (which I understand has come a long way since the mid-80's). A good wastegate is about $400 alone?...
Then I've been thinking about a custom dash with a nice GPS setup. I'm in the aviation industry so can get some very cool gauges and such but aircraft gauges don't translate well into motorcycle terms (e.g. 10K RPM). Maybe I ought to think about an aviation-themed rebuild. Ya'll make me think about this a bit too much.
A-Magic is an awfully pretty girl, too. The oil cooler is a good thought...like the swingarm, front dual disks, painted fender...well, everything!
Here's a very pretty girl I got to put through her paces last year, photography by my friend/pilot who is the guy who'll be doing the paint work- Jim Raeder :

She's just a tad faster than my bike...

Very cool.
Well maybe the boys should just throw up some pics for u. this way u can see some dif avenues, and it may help u decide on a particular direction.
Do u have a personal preference for a style, like perhaps, long and low, or rd race, cafe?
Here's a long low 1 for example.
sorry it didnt load.

"Long & low" scares me. Aircraft are typically "form follows function" and that's the way I roll (back to a Windjammer on that particular bike. Ha!).
The understated style of A-Magic is tempting...I'll cruise around through the galleries when I come up for air and get some ideas.
I'd like it to be a foolproof rider (e.g. no terrible oversteer). Those kind of things make my laundry bills go up.

That's gorgeous, mark1122.
Old Harley or ? light and instrument cans?
The front fender-can't tell by the photo, but is it carbon fiber?
