Progress on my KZ 'fighter was created by KzJim
It's been a while since I have posted here and even longer since I have made any real progress on my KZ.. but I have made some good progress in the last few weeks and I wanted to post and show it off..

About a year ago I got the ZX7 front end done, I designed my own stem for the ZX yokes that matched the KZ stem.

In the last few weeks I have gathered all the main bits to get the Ducati 916 swing arm put together and the custom swing arm pivot bushings done to get the bike to a point where I can set the ride height.
The rear wheel gets a tire this week and the next step is to fab up the upper shock lever mount.

I'm hoping that it will be able to stand on it's own again in the next few weeks.. provided I can find the side stand...

Way to go Jim! This could be a very cool project. Never seen a monoshock with the linkage at the top. I guess that Ducati had to be different.

I am most definately curious how you went about fitting the swingarm in there! It's always fun and educational to see someone elses approach to a similar problem. I am amazed at how high your shock mount is going to be, but it also looks like you're probably going to end up with more swingarm angle than you have in the pics. I am interested to see your progress, I'm about at the same point you are-

After a closer inspecton of your pics, it looks like the Duc swingarm fit into the Kz frame without having to modify the frame much, if at all? It looks like you still have the stock bottom motor mount/centerstand brace, and you are utilizing the stock Kz swingarm pivot bolt. So, the pivot bushing you are talking about must be for the center section between the pivot "forks"?

Ya.. ya gotta leave it to those crazy Italians!.. but ya gotta love 'em..

As for the tail section, I'm gonna have to fab it.. My tail section didn't make it from GA back to Cali.. The battery box will end up back farther from the stock location...the shock and lever actually doesn't stick up as far as I had originally thought... It will be close to the seat pan, so having to fab the tail section.. I will most likely bump it up a 1/2"(?) or modify the seat pan.. but that's down the road.

I'm just happy it's actually looking like a bike again..

Testarossa... I like the looks of yours.. how long have you been working on it? Have you figured out the sprocket off-set yet? I'm guessing 3/4" to 1" on mine.. I'm hoping it's something I can get from APE and I'll need a support as well.. If I can't find one, I'll just design it and have it made.

I will need a 7/8" offset on mine, and you'll be going to PMFR or D&G for it, not APE. Another member on here, irishwill, had made a batch of outboard bearing supports. I have one, as well as Mark. He may still have a couple left. It was $100 plus shipping, I think? Best deal around. You're gonna need one anyway! :cheer:

Thanks boss. I got my bike as a basketcase about two years ago. Got it home and stripped it down in about a week. Then it sat in pieces in my garage until just before Christmas. I started work on what you see now back in early December. As for the sprocket offset, I can get away with only 1/2", but I didn't need to spread my frame for my swingarm. Talk with porchev914 about the offset since his project is very similar to yours. Also Irishwill is building the countershaft sprocket supports. Listen to what mark1122 tells you. He has a knack of chiming in at the right moment with experienced advice.
