Saved Another One

Craigslist find. I picked up this KZ650 this weekend. I have been looking for a low cost 650 for a couple years and this one fit the bill. $250.00 all clapped out not much good on it, stator side cylinder is rusted tight. But it has a title and a nice set of engine cases. This will be the perfect start for my 810 cc vintage racer replica. I have a 83 GPZ crankshaft, cylinder block, head, cams, and carbs that have been waiting for this bike. I am planning on twin shocks, aluminum swing arm and conventional larger diameter forks and a brake upgrade. Wheels will be from the 83 GPZ as well. Exhaust will be a Yoshimura with aluminum silencer. Any ideas for this project are apprieciated. The work will not start until fall. I have to complete my 79 restoration before I start this one.

My first street bike was a 1978 KZ650 and I always loved the bike. I have wanted to build a big bore 650 for over 25 years!!! Then about 2 years ago I found the GPZ and thought it would be fun to combine the GPZ and 650. I guess there is no cure for the sickness.

Good on you too bring back another kz, and with upgrades too.
