It's an '87 model. My stepbrother said the shift shaft got buggered up and it got stuck in 2nd gear, so he tore it down and replaced that part. Building it back up, he was installing new rings... and he broke one. The next day was his 50th birthday, so he went out and bought a new V-Rod. He's since put many, many, many miles on the VRSC while the cop bike languished, chassis in the weather, engine on the dining room table.
In the short term, I plan to steal a few parts for my 750. Ponch is going to be a long, long term project.
See that red part in the middle? It says PURSUIT.
Very few miles on this tire, and upon close inspection, it appears not to be dry rotted too badly.
My assistant is excited about the new project.
A friend of mine said, "Shit, put the liter engine in your cafe bike and the 7-fitty in this new chassis."
Hahaha, everyone is expecting me to do this! I've considered it, of course, I just can't stomach the idea of pulling the engine to do a valve adjustment...
[strike]I do plan to swap wheels between the two bikes, so I'll have 19/16 on the cop bike and 18/18 on the 750. Both bikes have a 15mm front axle, but the 1000 has a thicker rear axle, so I'll have to swap bearings. [/strike] (Idea abandoned.)
I had a crazy idea the other day: I started wondering if I could use the pistons from the 998cc motor in the 738cc motor. Alas, the wrist pins are bigger on the liter motor, so I abandoned that line of inquiry before I ever got to valve angles and clearances and such.
My other brother showed up and helped me unload everything, and I gave him the siren. He seemed pretty happy with it, though I have no idea if it still works.
[strike]For my next trick, I'm gonna investigate these new carb holders that came with the cop bike, see if they'll fit my 750. Both bikes use BS34s, so it'll come down to bolt spacing. The holders on my 750 aren't leaking... yet, but they're pretty old.[/strike] (Idea abandoned.)

Cool beans man, another cop bike. I would like one just for touring.
Yeah, that's the plan for this one. One of the saddle boxes got a little melted in a grass fire, so I'm pondering replacing them with ammo boxes. I think the 30mm boxes are just about the right size...

I like mine stock. I can park ANYWHERE, and people get out of my way.
You got your work cut out for you, but ebay is a great source for parts, and they usually are cheap. The bike is easy to work on.
Get rid of the run flats and put a set of good tires on it, it makes a world of difference. I got Metzler 880's- NICE!

Damn fine looking clocks! Those go for real money on eBay.
I'm going to keep the stock fairing, it's just so hideous that I have to use it, plus I like the extra driving lights. That sucker's heavy, though! Same with that enormous front fender, it's so ugly I have to keep it!
The run-flats are long gone, this bike has been through two owners since it was in service for The Man. My stepbrother put a Cheng Shin on the back just before he parked it, and the guy before him had Continentals on it.
[strike]Soon, I'm going to move the 18" back wheel from the cop bike to my 750. It's a Hi-Max, so it'll match the front I already have on there. The 16" back wheel on the cafe will go to the cop bike, and it's already shod with an ME-880. As the project progresses, I'll swap the front wheels. I'll need to replace that Conti, it's just too far gone to trust. [/strike](idea abandoned)
I've already decided I'll paint the cop bike to match the 750: satin black with red frame.
