z1000 resurrection

Well as you could imagine from the title im trying to bring a 1000 back from the dead.

here are a few pics to start the build off





This is the platform everything's going on 1978 kz1000 I got pretty cheap.

I soon found out that its missing a fair amount and came across a 1980? kz1000 ltd to snatch parts from



so now the plan is get the ltd running then swap the motor, chopped up wiring, wheels to the 78

few questions for you guys
Does anyone know where I can download a manual?
Anyone know what size bolt I can use to take this stubborn rotor off the crank? (bad starter clutch)

looks like an 81-82 csr1000 to me for your parts bike

Put a ball bearing behind the large nut on the top triple tree to get the rotor off.

I mean the rotor on the left side of the engine in front of the starter clutch

and PLUMMEN it could be but whats the difference?

The big bolt will screw into the rotor. Put a bearing on the crank snout behind the bolt and it will pull it off. Those Japs are pretty smart engineers.

just tried the bolts to small

did u try the big bolt in the center of the top triple tree?
i dont think the motors will swap without frame mods.
The later 82 is the better pick. stronger frame, better motor, bigger valves, and ports.

Top bolt from the triple tree is what i tryed and it was 2 small. I want the dove tail of the 78 and it already has a j head motor mounted in it...its just blown up

Use the axle bolt. Roy

78's had kz motors. It must have been swapped out already. i know the tree bolt fits the kz rotor, but u have a j, so i don't know what size it is. just try a few dif bolts from around the bike. as bob says, maybe the axle?
