well, i have always been crazy about the gpz1100's and kz1000r's. In my opinon, they look amazing, i love everyting about them. I located one not far from my home, but the owner does not want to sell it. A guy i work with told me his cousin had an old kaw that was really big, and really fast. i asked him to check into it and its an 82 gpz1100. He does not want to sell, cause he wants to get it running again. He doesnt really know its value, and had no idea what a kz was when i asked, he just wants to hold onto it cause it used to be fast as hell. It has been laid over, but no body damage, just engine cover scratches, it was spray painted black, but is in good conditoin other than that. Ran fine until he put a piece of wire in for one of the fuses that kept burning out (smooth move). what is a reasonable offer?

i have watched early gpz's on auction sites for 4 yrs now,and owned a 81 yrs back

some crash marks

is it running carbs, cause the f.i can go crazy and get $$$$

painted really makes em stray away from the glory of a gpz:(

spray painted,
$$$
wiring melted maybe here and there,$$$

fuse popping in past$$$

probably maintenece issues if the guys a bit of a hack...

tires,and misc stuff....$$$

would i wanna save it and move forward???? YES!!!!

would i wanna shell out more than 500-700...tough one cause we can't see it like you can..pics???

nice ones often go unbidded and there are some i've seen relisted with mods already done in great shape for 1200-2000...low miles and set up bad to the bone...new york has a few popping up a lot....bus trip??? ride your st out:woohoo:

The market is all over the map on older (first generation) GPz's. Many many issues affect what the bike might sell for, including location and time of year...not to mention all those mentioned by trianglelaguna. I have seen running, but ratty, 1981/2 Gpz1100's go for less than US$1000 and I have seen a 1982 GPz1100 sell for US$8000 (but it was absolutely spectacular). Some of those <US$1000 were probably not worth it while the US$8000 was worth it! I paid US$1400 for mine and it was not running but complete...I have another US$2000 in it and it is almost running  so I sort of overpaid. Your intended bike is probably worth US$1500 or so if parted out and the tank, body work, etc. is salvageable. Parts are becoming scarce (but not as yet rare) for the KZ1100B2 so if you have to rebuild, you should keep that in mind. In fact, you may want to hit him with what it'll cost him to get it running well (use me as an example)...if he is money or talent constrained, then it might leverage him to unload the bike while he can and someone is interested...non-running bikes take a special person to buy them (generally KZR impaired people :) )
